Hi! I'm Aura and welcome to my blog where I write about videogames, music, tech and anything that I feel I have something to say about. Enjoy!
2024 In Music
It's been almost a year since I set up this blog and what do you know. I haven't wrtiten anything until now!
But it's time to finally get to it so let's begin with the albums I enjoyed the most in 2024.
Arcos, bóvedas, pórticos - Tenue #
The latest album by the post-hardcore band Tenue, hailing from Galicia, is a true labor of love, packed with raw emotion amid the melodic chaos of its songs. Jazz-infused passages provide moments of respite between the more intense sections, creating space for reflection and heightening the emotional impact of the distorted, tremolo-laden riffs that define the album.
Coup de Grace - Seeyouspacecowboy... #
Seeyouspacecowboy... brings their unique brand of hardcore, known as Sasscore, to life with a throwback to the 2000s screamo scene. They blend nostalgic influences with fresh grooves and production quality that far surpasses anything from that era. Featuring anthemic choruses, infectious melodies, and a standout vocal performance by Connie Sgarbossa—who adds a dose of sass with her quasi-falsetto voice—this album showcases the best of what a modern yet retro-inspired metal record can be.
Absolute Elsewhere - Blood Incantation #
Arguably the most acclaimed metal album of 2024, this work proves that classic death metal vibes blend seamlessly with a King Crimson-inspired sound, reaching the level of an absolute masterpiece. It overcomes the common pitfalls of genre mashups by integrating calmer, more progressive moments with heavy, crushing riffs and vocals in a way that feels organic—almost as if it came straight out of the '70s, yet with the production quality of the 2020s.
The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation - Giver #
My favorite album of 2024—raw and full of emotion—the band from Münster is at its strongest here, pushing post-hardcore even further by incorporating thrashier elements and, at times, a post-punk sound. But for me, the lyrics are the biggest draw: leftist, antifascist, and delivering a direct message that leaves no room for interpretation. Months after its release, I keep coming back to it, and it still fills me with energy and inspiration—and despite the album's title, hope for the future.
Under the Shadow of a Foreign Sun - Piah Mater #
This was a late discovery for me. This Brazilian duo has crafted an spectacular progressive black metal album that, rather than sounding derivative, offers a fresh—albeit dark and oppressive—take on a genre that is less explored than its death metal counterpart. With long songs featuring striking leitmotifs and riffs that linger in your head for hours after the album ends, Piah Mater is a name I'll be keeping an eye on from now on.
The Last Will And Testament - Opeth #
The lords of progressive death metal are back, sounding as if they never left. After years of crafting great music inspired by classic progressive rock, Opeth returns with an album that once again features growls, heavy riffs, and a sound that builds upon their more rock-oriented era. By blending these elements with their older, heavier style, they’ve created a fresh take on their formula.
Coma - Gaerea #
I don't usually listen to traditional black metal, but this album is totally my jam. Between long tremolos, distant growls, and complex rhythms, there are captivating riffs that keep me coming back for more. The landscape painted by this album is somber, with a few bright spots that shine even stronger against the surrounding darkness.
Time II - Wintersun #
After years in the making, a crowdfunding campaign, and plenty of promises, Wintersun has finally released Time II—and it delivers. Melodic death metal with an epic, bombastic twist, it’s an absolute blast to listen to.
And that's it. There are many more albums that could have made the list—not because they aren't great, but because I didn't have enough time to fully appreciate them. 2024 was an amazing year for music, and 2025 is shaping up to be even better.
Welcome!
The adventure begins here. #
Welcome to Turbo Blog. Here's where I can rant about anything at anytime. Maybe a game review? Or some code? Or just a piece about how much I like something! Even I don't know what to expect, but I'm sure it'll be great.
Enjoy the ride and let's get to it!
